The issue stemmed from DNS resolution failures with our upstream provider, which disrupted connectivity on our primary trunks used for Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) termination. Inbound calls, internal communications, and other outbound non-PSTN services remained operational throughout the event. The impairment lasted approximately 2 hours, from 6:00pm CST to 8:00pm CST, and was resolved by removing dynamic DNS lookups configurations and forcing static IP-based routing, thus avoiding the intermittent NXDOMAIN (non-existent domain) responses causing the failures.
